The Lady Trojan varsity basketball team finished their season with a loss at the Region IV quarterfinals level, a 58-54 loss to Floresville.
The squad placed second in District 30-4A play with an 8-4 district mark and finished the season with an impressive overall mark of 28-9. It was the first trip into the playoffs since 2008 for the Lady Trojans.
The district coaches recently released their 30-4A All-District choices, and the Beeville girls captured several places on the elite teams.
Victoria Elizalde earned a first team selection for her fine season. Elizalde averaged almost 20 points a contest and was near 10 rebounds a game. Her performance in the team’s finale included her pouring in 33 points and pulling down five rebounds in the close loss.
Point guard Tori Muñoz and forward Ciara Garcia were named to the district’s second team. Muñoz keyed the offense at times and headed up the frenzied defenses employed by the Jones High girls. Garcia, the lone sophomore on the squad dominated by seniors, held down a forward spot for the Lady Trojans. Her positioning and basketball savvy around the lane paid big dividends for the Beeville girls all season long.
The Lady Trojans added three players to the District 30-4A honorable mention list as forward Theresa Amador, post Paige McKinney and wing Brennan Holder made the select group.
