This young squad faced numerous challenges coming into this game. Several of the JV girls are brand new to the game and, with just a couple of weeks of experience, are learning as they go. In addition to inexperience, the JV girls were missing two players to illness and had to play shorthanded.
The girls came out knowing what they were up against and played a great first half despite giving up a goal. In the second half, the team suffered an injury to a player and was forced to play much of the game outnumbered by three players.
It didn’t seem to bother the girls in the least, as they played almost the entire game in Floresville’s territory and eventually came up with a score by Alexis Gonzales. The final was a 1-1 tie.
“Alexis has really stepped up as the leader of this young team and her future in soccer is looking bright,” said JV coach Tim San Miguel.
Goalkeeper Emma Downing played well in goal for the Lady Trojans and even received praise by opposing coaches, according to San Miguel.
Defensively the Lady Trojans got great performances from Ali Kroen and Sierra Jefferson. Sarah De Leon and Tiffany Vargas applied great pressure up top and in the mid-field.
“These girls are exciting to watch and continue to show improvement every week,” said San Miguel.
The JV girls play in Pleasanton on Friday.
