In softball, good pitching can dominate. The Lady Trojans ran into some good pitching on Tuesday night in Port Lavaca as the Sandies no-hit the Beeville girls for a 3-0 victory.

PL hurler Cecilia Castillo struck out 13 Lady Trojans and did not allow a base hit.

“Their pitcher was tough. When we hit the ball, we hit it straight to someone. They played great defense,” said Lady Trojan head coach Adolfo Dominguez.

The Sandies got two runs in the bottom of the first and then added a run in the fourth after two outs were already on the board on a passed ball to complete the scoring.

“This game will help us work on our weaknesses and it will help us realize that we still have to continue to work hard and that there is still room for improvement,” Dominguez said.

The Lady Trojans played well on defense with just one error, but at the plate, they could not get the ball to drop into a gap or scurry through the infield for a hit.

“I was real proud of the team because they had a real positive attitude throughout the game and they never surrendered,” Dominguez said.

The Lady Trojans were at home last night against the Rockport-Fulton Lady Pirates. The junior varsity contest got things going at 5 p.m. with the varsity tilt following at 7 p.m.

The Beeville girls now sport a 3-1 district record and are 10-5 overall.

Next Tuesday night the Lady Trojans will meet the district’s only remaining undefeated team, the Moody Lady Trojans, at Cabaniss Field at 7 p.m.
