Congressman Rubén Hinojosa (Texas-15th District) announced that the 2009 Artistic Discovery Congressional Art Competition is now open to high school students throughout Texas’ 15th Congressional District.

Artistic Discovery is a national art competition open to high school students throughout the United States and is a coordinated by members of the U.S. House of Representatives.

“I have been eagerly awaiting the commencement of this year’s Artistic Discovery competition and look forward to viewing the artwork submitted by our many gifted students,” Hinojosa said. “This competition provides a great forum for students to showcase their talents and for schools to highlight their art departments and school districts.”

Winning entries will be displayed for one year as part of the national exhibition in the House of Representatives’ Cannon Tunnel. The winner will be flown to the Washington area courtesy of Southwest Airlines to see his/her work on display. The winner also will receive a scholarship to the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Ga. The competition deadline is May 1.
