“We started a little slow but held it close for a while. In the end, we just walked too many batters and made too many mistakes in the field,” said S-T head coach Cody Fields.
“We hit the ball well, with nine hits, but the Odem pitcher did a good job of scattering those hits.”
The Owls struck first with two runs in the top of the first against S-T starter Aaron Hughes. The Bobcats cut the lead with a single run of their own in the third to make it a 2-1 contest.
The Owls screeched loudly in the fourth with a five-run explosion to take control of the contest. The ’Cats picked up another run in the bottom of the fifth to make it a 7-2 ball game. Three Owls were plated in the sixth and four more Odem runners came across in the seventh to finish the visitors.
Odem took advantage of six S-T errors in the game to help in their run production.
Hughes started and pitched five innings, giving up six earned runs and striking out seven Owls. Brandon East pitched two innings giving up one earned run and he struck out one Odem batter. East went 3-4 with an RBI at the plate. Sebastian Hernandez went 2-4 with an RBI and Kyle Nelson was 1-1 with three walks and a stolen base.
“We have two games left that we need to win to end the season on a high note,” Fields said.
The Bobcats were in San Diego on Tuesday and will host the Freer Buckaroos in the season finale on Friday night.
