BEEVILLE – After reviewing more than 30 applications and interviewing approximately 10 “finalists,” the selection committee of the Beeville ISD recommended to the board that former Sinton and Sealy head coach and Athletic Director Jimmie Mitchell should become the new head of the Trojan athletic department.

His recommendation was approved by the board unanimously.

Mitchell took the 3A Sealy Tigers to the football playoffs in each of the last four years, compiling an overall record of 35-11. His record was 28-6 in his last three years as the Tigers’ head coach.

Mitchell replaces Troy Moses, who took a coordinator’s position with Canyon Lake High School.

Coach Mitchell will have a big job ahead of him in hiring several new head coaches for the Trojans for the upcoming school year. A new girls’ basketball coach and girls’ coordinator position also stands open as does a head baseball coach, boys’ soccer coach and a head tennis coach position. He will also fill out his football coaching staff over the summer to be ready for the opening day of summer practice in August. A few of those hires may transcend into the vacant head coaching positions.

“I am extremely excited to be here, and I am ready to get started,” Mitchell said.

“It’s going to take a little time, but we’ll get there.”

Mitchell said that he will bring a few assistant coaches with him but will also interview the coaches on staff for possible positions.

The Trojans will be running a new offensive scheme next year and a new defensive format as well.

“I run the spread offense with multiple schemes with some off the I-formation. On defense, we’ll run a 4-2-5 formation,” Mitchell said.

He was joined at the board meeting by his wife, Cinci, and she mentioned that they have two children. Son Cass is attending the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton and daughter Clanci will graduate from Sealy High School this June and is already enrolled at Blinn Junior College.
