Adelita “Addie” Ochoa has announced that she is running as a write-in candidate for RISD Board of Trustees, place 4. This week she announced the following statement:

“My name is Addie (Adelita) Ochoa. I have been married to Sgt. Police Officer Dean Ochoa for 18 years. We have three wonderful boys that attend RISD including Alex, 17, a junior in high school; Austin, 7, first grade; and Dominique, 5, pre-k.

I am currently employed by the Town of Refugio as a municipal court clerk/water department clerk since 2002.

I am asking for an opportunity to serve as a new voice for our district. With a great system in place, along with an outstanding school board, I feel that I can be an asset.

Having been involved as a board member of the Refugio Little League, as president, vice president, concession stand coordinator, and now secretary/treasure further qualifies me for the position I am seeking. The responsibilities, time commitment, and hard effort are a key part that accompanies these positions.

As your elected board member, my commitment will be to ensure the quality of education, the safety of our students and to meet the needs of our professional and certified educators.

I feel that a strong foundation for education must be set from pre-k and followed through high school. It is imperative that our students are educated to the highest level to succeed in this ever-changing economic era.

Refugio has a bright future ahead where new doors are opening on a daily basis. I want to be part of the team that will help make the right decisions for the future goals of our youth. If everyone works together, we can all be successful.

I kindly ask for your support and vote as a write in on May 9.
