BREAKING NEWS:

The Beeville Independent School District is close to naming a successor to Chris Soza, maybe as soon as Monday.

Names of the six finalists for the position as the Trojans’ athletic director and head football coach were released by Superintendent John Hardwick on Friday morning.

Dr. Hardwick, members of the A.C. Jones High School administration and three members of the Beeville community have narrowed the selection down to six finalists.

Those still in the running to head the Trojans include: Brent Kornegay from Orange Grove, George Peña from Hidalgo, Tony Treviño from Uvalde, Troy Moses from Lockhart, Mickey Finley from Victoria Memorial and Eddie Baca from Justin’s Northwest High School. The first five are presently head coaches at their schools and Baca is an assistant coach at Justin’s Northwest High School, a suburb of Denton.

The three community members who have helped narrow the list to these six finalists are Jean Ann Beasley, Louis Alaniz and Assistant Chief of Police Kenneth Jefferson.

The BISD board will be involved in the final approval of the new AD and head football coach.

The Beeville school board needs to hire a football coach with the same offensive philosophy as soza had( George Pena from Hildago is a disciple of the slot-t offense....he was an assistant to Bruce Bush-"the father of the slot-t offense"....with Pena the football program will not have to rebuild...they'll just have to reload!!!...the multiple slot-t offense is a perfect fit for the trojans....and bring back coach luce for the boys basketball program....the boy's basketball program was a solid program until coach soza arrived....A.C. Jones High School has great athletes across the board...bring in an athletic director that is geared toward building an overall successful athletic program.
