REFUGIO – The Refugio Country Opry will host an exciting lineup of crowd-pleasing entertainers on Thursday, Sept. 5, at the Refugio County Fairgrounds Expo Building. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the show starts at 7.

Special guests are Mandy Nixon of Woodsboro, Priscilla Speed of Staples and John Sisk of George West.

Mandy is well known in Refugio County. She works at the Vantage Bank in Refugio and is the daughter of Opry organizer, Neal Haertig. She has made numerous appearances on the Opry. “Priscilla has been on the Opry several times in the past,” said Neal Haertig, organizer. “We believe everyone will enjoy her.”

John is a well known auctioneer in the area and is also a pastor. “John has a deep bass voice and is a lot of fun on stage and we know you will really like him,” Haertig said.

“We regret that our admission price has had to go up, but where we once had free rental of the Expo Center we now have to pay a $250 rental fee. This change takes away $3,000 in a year from our scholarship fund.”

Admission will be $8 per person and $15 a couple.

“We are working on other options in hopes of reducing the price in the future. We are asking all our fans to please stay with us if you can. We will still provide a lot of show for the money,” Haertig said.

“We need the support of our local people along with our regular supporters. Come help us provide much needed scholarships for your children and grandchildren. Please come out and support the Opry,” he said.

The Fierova Family provides an excellent food court, and like the Opry, all their net proceeds go toward a scholarship fund for graduating seniors. Come early and eat.
