The Runge Chamber of Commerce held a special meeting Thursday, Oct. 24 to encourage participation in Christmas in the Park celebration. The meeting objective was to establish a coalition of the community churches to actively participate with the Runge Chamber of Commerce in a holiday celebration for Dec. 7 and every first weekend of December forward.

This is an opportunity to share God’s love and grace as a community and as individual church groups. Representatives from several of the local churches were present and several items were discussed. Another meeting is scheduled for Nov. 7 to finalize the planning and participation in this event.

Events and activities of the Runge Chamber are “Making a Difference” in the community. This past Sunday, Runge hosted the first Texas Amateur Football League games called “Monsters of the Gridiron Bash”. It was a double header and teams came from across the state. Winners of the double header were as follows: “North Houston Titans” went down in defeat by the “Texas Ducks” with a score of 32 to 14 in the first match up that started at 1 p.m. The 4 p.m. game ended with the “Permian Basin Skyforce” beating the “South Texas Renegades” by a score of 62 to 0. With tons of enthusiasm from the crowd, it was great fun to watch these teams come together and play. Though the double header was sponsored by the Runge Chamber of Commerce, the real winner here will be Runge ISD Athletic’s. Proceeds from these games will go to them for improvements of the field, score board, etc.

The purpose of the Runge Chamber is to promote business, agriculture and education, creating strong leadership benefitting the entire Runge community. Working together with the schools, churches, business and outside resources the chamber look forward to continuing to grow the membership and activities.

The next chamber meeting will be held at the Runge Library on Tuesday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. Also planned is a second community meeting of the Chamber Christmas at the Park event scheduled for Nov. 7 at the library.

In January, as a non-profit organization, the chamber is excited to bring in Janet Spies from Austin for a training session to educate and assist, along with other non-profits in the area, with state and national requirements and best business practices necessary to maintain the 501c3 status related to accounting, donations, tax requirements, etc. If you are a non-profit group and would like professional training or want to create a non-profit agency, this training is for you.
