FALLS CITY – The Falls City Council approved the three month period of Dec. 15, 2013 through March 15 to set the water/sewer billing rate for the current year, during the Jan. 15 regular meeting.

The city will take the water usage that individual residences have for those three specific months and use that to calculate the sewer billing rate for the year.

City officials state that an official public notice will be put out very soon in order to remind citizens of the policy.

“The sewer bill will be based on their water consumption,” said Mayor Brent Houdmann. “During those three months if they have low consumption, then their sewer bill will be less throughout the year, based on those three months of using water. That’s why we do it in the winter time, to help the citizens out.”

Also at the meeting the council approved the dates of April 12-19 for the annual city-wide spring cleanup.

For the cleanup the city will have its sanitation company come in and bring two large roll off dumpsters that will be placed at the wastewater plant. Citizens will be allowed to dump large trash or junk items that cannot be disposed of through the regular trash pickup service, according to city officials. Certain items such as paint and tires will not be allowed to be dumped in the roll off dumpsters.
