Following the initiation, Chapter President Lana Massengale conducted the business meeting. First Vice President Pam Burge informed members that at the April meeting a special auction will be held to raise funds to help offset costs to members wishing to attend the 85th Texas State Organization Convention in Lubbock, June 19-21. Jan Anderson provided members with information about the 2013-2014 recipients of DKG’s World Fellowship Fund. New recipients receive $4,000 grants for graduate study at universities in Canada and the US. Begun in 1946 as a project to aid women in war torn countries, to date more than 858 women from 117 countries have received fellowships. Currently 3 of the 33 recipients are studying at Texas universities.
The Nominations Committee presented a slate of officers for the 2014-2016 biennium, which was approved by the membership. They are: President – Pam Burge, 2nd Vice President – Pam Kerlick, Recording Secretary – Erie Head, Corresponding Secretary – Jennifer Gonzales. The 1st Vice President’s position will be voted on at the April meeting.
Chapter members with December, January, February and March birthdays were recognized, and members shared in the accomplishments of Gamma Omicron sisters as “brags” were read from the Brag Bag. Betty Thornton read The Collect and members gave a response as a blessing for the meal prepared by Beeville C Group. The group served a delicious lunch of ham, scalloped potatoes, green beans, salad, rolls and cheesecake. Thanks go not only to the ladies of Group C, but to Erwin Massengale for his help with the meal preparation. The next Gamma Omicron meeting will be April 5.
