BEEVILLE – A slow start plus some hot shooting Ladycats proved to be the difference as the Calallen JV girls captured a 43-33 victory on Jan. 31 over the Lady Trojan JV.

“We had a slow start, but we kept on running the floor and worked our way back into the game. Calallen was able to knock down six three-pointers, which provided them with a cushion throughout the game,” said JV coach Abel Barrera.

“We had too many shots not go down for us, but we were able to score on Calallen’s turnovers. Once again the free throw line hurt us; we missed 19 free throws.”

The Lady Trojans had two girls in double figures against the Ladycats. Alyssa Silva hit for a team-high 12 points, and Amanda Garza followed with 10. Michaela Fernandez contributed six points while Samantha Salazar tallied three. Isabella Knapp scored two points.

“We hope to close out the season with another victory over T-M (Tuloso-Midway). I am proud with the much improved play of every player on this JV team,” Barrera said.

“These girls have been working hard this season, and it will pay off during their varsity seasons in the future.”

The Lady Trojans concluded their season on Tuesday night in Corpus Christi with a battle against the T-M Cherokees.

No report was made available for the freshman game.
