The gallery was decorated in red to show support for Go Red for Women month and came to a close on Friday, Feb. 7 on national Wear Red Day.
Gallery owner Saundra Queen-Schultz expressed special thanks to all those who came out in support of the event in support of a special cause.
“Special thanks go out to some very special patrons,” she said. “Team ‘Hearts of Joy’ was able to raise over $650 to give to the American Heart Association’s ‘Go Red for Women’ fund!”
A three-day-long silent auction was hosted at the gallery, Schultz explained, with healthy goodies sold, and cash donations raised during the event. One hundred percent of all donations are being given to the Go Red for Women fund to help fund research for women’s heart disease.
“In America, every four minutes a woman is diagnosed with heart disease,” Schulz said. “One in three women have heart disease in the U.S. Every three minutes a woman in this country dies of heart disease. That is totally unacceptable!”
Schultz said the recent event was in keeping with a pledge to make an effort to help raise awareness of the issue for women in Karnes County and beyond.
Schultz expressed thanks to Stacey Schultz and Anisia with Kaiser Home Health for volunteering their time and giving free blood pressure and glucose checks. She also thanked Phelps Family Dentistry for generous donations, Janie Veth of Cuero for donate items.
“We expect to make the auction an annual event in memory of our loved ones lost to heart disease and to honor those who have survived heart disease or strokes,” Schultz said.
