Two big five-run innings were the difference as the visiting Moody Lady Trojans put up the crooked numbers in the third and fifth innings and added one additional run in the fourth against the Beeville girls.
“This was a tough way to end the season but the ladies kept their heads up and were able to hold off the Moody Trojans for the first two innings of play before they took a 5-1 lead in the third,” said JV coach Ophelia De Los Santos.
The local girls struck for a single run in the second to take an early lead over the visiting Moody JV. But that lead did not last long. Brianna Hernandez scored for the Beeville girls in the second after leading off the inning with a walk. A Moody throwing error allowed Hernandez across the plate.
Beeville scored another single run in the bottom of the fourth. Kassandra Cuellar reached in the fourth on a fielder’s choice and then later scored on another Moody miscue.
The Beeville girls got both runs without the benefit of a hit. The local ladies put the ball in play several times and forced the Moody club to play some defense to secure the win.
Alex Gamez and Jessica Cuellar both had base hits for the Beeville JV. Summer Olivo pitched well but gave up a few hits and the Beeville defense was charged with a few errors that helped the Moody cause.
“Overall the ladies’ individual accomplishments and improvements outweigh the losses. Everyone has a role to play and each one contributed to the team effort,” De Los Santos said.
The loss ends the season for the JV girls.
