BEEVILLE – The Lady Trojan soccer teams played host to the McCollum Cowboys on Friday night, and the visitors captured two wins against the Beeville girls.

In the JV contest, the Cowboys owned a 1-0 lead at the half, but the young Lady Trojans came back to tie the match with a second half goal. The visitors were able to get one more kick past the Beeville goalkeeper later in the final minutes and earned the 2-1 victory.

In the varsity match, the Lady Trojans trailed 1-0 at the half in a well-played defensive battle. The two teams continued their defensive confrontations in the second half, but the Cowboys got one last goal by keeper Mowdy Sanchez for a 2-0 victory.

Sanchez prevented another McCollum goal on a penalty kick early in the second half. The Lady Trojans were called for a hand ball in the box and the penalty kick was awarded. All by herself, in a one-on-one battle with the Cowboys’ best forward, Sanchez calmly blocked the hard kick to keep the contest at 1-0 early in the second 40 minutes.

The Lady Trojans had a few opportunities as forwards Keely Taylor, MacKenzie Harvey and Brianna Cooley worked deep into the Cowboys’ end of the field but could not find the right scoring combination to get a kick by the McCollum keeper.

The Lady Trojans were in San Antonio on Tuesday night to meet the Southside Lady Cardinals. On Friday, the Beeville girls will be back in San Antonio for their season finale against Harlandale.
