KARNES CITY – The Karnes City High School Mighty Badger Band received division one superior ratings at the UIL Music Region 12 Concert and Sightreading Contest March 6.

These ratings combined with the superior rating earned at the UIL Marching Contest last fall earned the band a UIL sweepstakes trophy.

To earn sweepstakes honors, a band must receive superior ratings in all three events.

This year is the first year the Badger Band has earned sweepstakes honors since the 2001-2002 school year – a dozen years ago.

“I couldn’t be prouder of these young adults,” said Band Director George DeRocher. “Thank you to their parents, the administration and faculty of KCISD and a special thank you to Coach Jim Wood and the entire coaching staff for working so willingly with us.”

Their contest selections were : “Elite March” by Sandy Feldstein and Larry Clark, “” by Robert Sheldon and “Medieval Legend” by Michael Story.

The band expressed thanks to the administration and staff of KCISD, the Karnes City community and especially the parents for their continued support and encouragement.
