Secretary Joyce Janssen called the roll of officers and read the minutes from the December meeting. No meeting was held in January because of bad weather. Treasurer Georgia Zowarka gave a report about the expenses from the last two months and the balance in the auxiliary account. Sr. Vice President Dinah Gallagher reported on correspondence received from District President Barbara Hartman.
New business included deciding whether or not to participate in a silent auction at the VFW golf tournament to be held in Victoria later this month. The money collected from this event will be given to the State Cancer Aid and Research committee. The ladies discussed this and decided against donating to the silent auction.
At this time, the Runge Auxiliary has no means of earning money. In the past the ladies operated a concession at bingo held at the Runge VFW. The closing of the bingo games ended that income for the auxiliary. This lack of income has been a concern for the organization throughout the year. They continue to donate to Texas VFW Auxiliary projects such as CAR, Veterans's hospitals and clinics, nursing scholarships, Voice of Democracy and Patriotic Pen scholarships, and Relay for Life here in Karnes County but must raise money in some way if they want to continue to do this. After bringing up several means of earning money, the members finally decided to hold a bake sale on the morning of their next monthly meeting day, March 25. They will set up their sale in downtown Runge at 8 a.m. and be there until all their cakes, pies, cookies, and other goodies are sold. They invite everyone to come by and support their effort.
