SKIDMORE – The visiting Odem Owls broke open a pitchers’ duel in the fourth with a four-run frame on their way to a 13-5 win over the Bobcats on Tuesday evening.

“We really started off the game pretty nicely. Aaron Hughes started the game for the Bobcats and fared pretty nicely over the first three innings, striking out four Owl batters,” said Bobcat head coach Nick Garza.

With the help of a few Bobcat defensive lapses in the fourth, the Owls plated four runs, and then they exploded for eight runs in the next frame.

The Bobcats scored a single run as James Rodriguez singled and moved up to second and in scoring position by stealing second. Caleb Davis then brought him home with an RBI single.

“In the fifth inning, Marcus Sarate relieved Aaron Hughes on the mound and did a great job in alleviating some pressure and not giving up any runs; defensive plays were made to keep the Bobcats in the game,” Garza said.

The Bobcat offense finally got going in the home-half of the fifth with five runs crossing the plate.

Ryan Perez started the inning with a single into right. Speedster Ryan Lakso was called in to pinch run for him and became the leading man to get the Bobcats out of the slump. Rodriguez had another single to left and eventually would score with an RBI by Sarate. Sarate would eventually score as well on a single by Caleb Davis and an error in part by the first baseman in the bottom of the fourth, making the score 13-5.

Rodriguez finished the night with two hits in four trips against the Owl pitching. Sarate stroked a double in four plate appearances. Davis also hit safely for the Bobcats. Perez singled once in two official at-bats. Ryan Pena scored one run after reaching on a walk.

The Bobcats played in San Diego on Friday night. On Tuesday evening, they will be at home against the Freer Buckaroos.
