The 2014 Goliad County Fair Parade was a success despite the threat of rain. Although the parade was run a little differently by the Goliad County Fair Association under the direction of Debra Barker, this year’s parade presented itself very well.
Our Grand Marshal was Harold Gleinser, the winner of the Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year Award.
The winners of trophies were:
Commercial – 1. It’s a Small World Nursery School, 2. Hochheim Prairie Insurance/SIG Insurance.
Chambers of Commerce – 1. Kenedy Chamber of Commerce Bluebonnet Days, 2. Pleasanton Chamber Cowboy Homecoming Court.
Marching/Mounted Unit – 1. Bar IV Paint Horses, 2. La Bahia Trail Riders.
Non-Commercial – 1. Victoria Shrine Club Fire Patrol, 2. Kenedy Rotary Miss Karnes County.
Best Decorated Car/Truck – 1. Victoria Slab Riders, 2. Anna Lopez Machacek (candidate for mayor).
Youth Organization – 1. Victoria Livestock Show Queens, 2. Miss Goliad and her court.
We also gave an award for Traveled Farthest to the Pleasanton Chamber Cowboy Homecoming Court, which also won the Judge’s Award.
The Mayor’s Award went to Kenedy Chamber of Commerce Bluebonnet Days.
There are many people to thank, those that gave of their time and efforts to put on the best parade possible. First of all, thanks to the announcer, Mark Hilbrich, for his voice and equipment, year after year. The lineup crew, which consisted of check-in volunteers Marilyn Belknap, Carol Burns, Faye Harris, Lorinda Rangel and Raymond Smithey; entry placement volunteers Raulie Irwin, Bill Janecek, Mike Martinez, Bil Montague, Roney Powell, Jimmy Schulze; and blockade sentries Hack Edwards and his crew.
Also thanks to the City of Goliad workers for placing the blockades and to Larry Zermeno for his help.
Many thanks to Bum Phillips Charities, which sponsored the trophies that were handled by Jerry Dornak and delivered by Miss Goliad, Sami Garza.
Thanks to our judges Albert Lopez and Diana Carrera and to Atzenhoffer Chevrolet for the vehicle it used in the parade.
Special thanks to those who helped in a pinch – George Cantu and Kim Davis – and to others who helped along the way – E.J. Bammert, Jessica Barker, Tracy Berger, Judge David Bowman, Harold Gleinser, Mayor Jay Harvey, Mona Foust and Bonnee Riggs of the Chamber of Commerce office, Michael Saldana, Wendy Saldana and JoAnn Ybarbo.
Sincere thanks to those who reside in the area near downtown where we line the entries up.
Thank you also to everyone who came out to see the 2014 Goliad County Fair Parade and to all the participating entries.
See you next year!
