SKIDMORE – The visiting George West Longhorn varsity baseball team took advantage of two big innings to help post a 14-5 victory over the Bobcats on Tuesday night.

The Bobcats struck first with a single run in the bottom of the first and held on to the 1-0 lead through the second frame. It was the top of the third that put the Bobcats in trouble. GW scored six big runs to take the lead, one they would not relinquish.

The Bobcats answered with two runs in the third but the Longhorns held a 6-3 margin entering the fourth. Five more GW runners crossed home plate in the fourth inning to help secure the victory. It was an 11-3 contest at that point.

The Bobcats went scoreless in the fourth, and the ’Horns added an additional two runs in the fifth to lead 13-3. The S-T boys needed at least one run to prevent being beaten by the UIL 10-run rule after five.

The Bobcats came through with a two-run fifth to make it a 13-5 scoreboard and take the game into the sixth and seventh frames. The Bobcats failed to put any more runs on the scoreboard, but the GW bats added a single run in the top of the seventh to make the final 14-5.

TJ Amador doubled in the contest for the Bobcats, and James Rodriguez collected two hits in four trips to the plate and scored twice. Aaron Hughes took the loss on the mound for Skidmore.

“Glad to see that we are hitting the ball better, now we just need to play a complete game on both sides of the ball,” said S-T head coach James Stancek.

The S-T boys travel Odem on Friday to test the Owls and will host the San Diego Vaqueros on Tuesday night.

The Bobcats will finish their regular season with two straight road games. On April 17, they will go against the Freer Buckaroos, and the season finale will be on April 22 in Taft.
