PORT LAVACA – The Lady Trojan junior varsity softball squad started well but wound up losing an 11-2 contest to the young Calhoun Sandies on Friday night.

Lady Trojan Abigail Traylor started things off for the Beeville girls with a successful bunt and then moved around the bases to third on a couple of steals. Traylor rode home on a single by Amanda Garza for a 1-0 Beeville lead.

The Sandies answered with four runs of their own in the bottom of the first to set the game’s tone. Ashley Olivarez teamed with Marivel Posada to threaten to score again for the Lady Trojans, but both runners were left stranded in the second inning. The Beeville girls did score one final run in the final inning, but the Sandies walked off the field with the big win.

The JV girls have two games left on their schedule, a Tuesday night contest hosting Calallen and then a road trip on Thursday to Tuloso-Midway in the season finale.

No report was received on the varsity contest.
