GOLIAD – Ruby Nelda Perez will present “Cuentos de Doña Rosita” at Goliad State Park and Historic Site at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 4.

Perez’s humorous bilingual stories reflect Mexican American traditions.

The presentation is made possible through a Texas Commission on the Arts Rural Outreach Program grant.

Perez is an actor who has been touring professionally throughout the United States, Mexico, and Latin America for over 30 years. Perez, who was born in Chicago, was raised in Alice.

Perez received her theatrical experience at Texas A&I University, which is now Texas A&M-Kingsville. There she was introduced to Latin American Theatre by the late Dr. Joseph Rosenberg with whom she founded El Teatro Bilingue de Kingsville that toured extensively in Mexico.

The characters that she portrays are bilingual and bicultural and many of her stories are issue-driven.

Her characters often provide a voice for those facing challenges.

The titles of her productions are “A Women’s Work” (premiered 1984), “Doña Rosita’s Jalapeno Kitchen” (premiered 1995), and “Rosita’s Day of the Dead” (premiered 1999).

Perez has received numerous awards and recognitions throughout her career.
