As part of my job I get to read books aloud to kids from pre-kindergarten on up to fourth grade every week, and I've got to tell you, it's a treat. The kids are excited to do something different, the teachers are excited to get a little break, and I'm absolutely thrilled to get to share the stories I love with others.

Studies have shown that reading to kids can help with vocabulary and comprehension and I'm all for that, but it can also get kids excited about books and reading (not as excited as I am, but that takes years of practice). Plus, it's a great way for families to spend time together and give their imaginations a workout.

So come on down to the Runge Public Library and I'll be glad to recommend some of my favorites and help you find the books that are right for you. I can't wait for you to meet the Pigeon and Skippyjon Jones and the amazing dog named Winn-Dixie.
