GOLIAD – Following is a preview of the Class 2A girls long jump at Friday's and Saturday's UIL State Track and Field Championships at Austin's Mike A. Myers Stadium:

GOLIAD ATHLETE: Cortnee Priour

STARTING TIME: 8:30 a.m., Friday

TOP QUALIFYING MARK: 18 feet, 9 inches by Omaha Paul Pewitt's Chadnee Knox

STATE RECORD: 21-1 1/2 by Luling's Ychlindria Spears in 2000

CLASS 2A RECORD: 19-11 by Alto's Monique Hackney in 2005

PREVIEW: Priour finished third at the Region IV-2A meet but reached Austin by having the fastest non-automatic qualifying mark in the state with a leap of 17-5.

Knox returns to try to defend her state title. She won the event with a mark of 19-6 3/4 last year. The only other returnee from last year is Leonard's Brittyn Rushing who ranks fourth among the qualifiers with a 17-8 and was seventh in 2013 with a 17-3 1/4. The other qualifiers are Bangs' Alex Madlock (18-4 1/2), Schulenburg's Sarah Walker (17-11), Teague's Jasmine McQuirter (17-6 3/4), Industrial's Lauren Brogger (17-5 1/2), Linden-Kildare's Shardai Love (17-5) and Tulia's Markeyla Hicks (17-2 1/2).

SYNOPSIS: Goliad could use some points from Priour to start the meet on a good note in its attempt to win a state title.

NEXT PREVIEW: Goliad girls 1,600-meter relay team.
