Richard “Dink” Garrett Sr., 56, died Tuesday, May 20, 2014, after an accident in Ivanhoe.

Mr. Garrett was born Dec. 14, 1957, in Bexar County to Johnny Foster Garrett and Golden Dorothy Garrett. He was raised in Corpus Christi prior to joining the United States Marines and was a longtime resident of Skidmore, prior to moving to the Houston area. He enjoyed woodworking, working on cars, visiting with friends and telling stories.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter, Kayla Ann Garrett.

Survivors include three children, Richard Garrett Jr. of Rockingham, North Carolina, Amanda Kay Hollington of Brunswick, Georgia and Chere Garrett of Willis; four grandchildren, MacKenzie Crosby, John Riley Hollington, Jessica Broughton and Benji Goodrum; brothers and sisters, Johnny Garrett Jr. of Cave City, Arkansas, Barbara Brummett of Warren, Trisha (Raymond) Hanke of Sandia, Don Garrett and Debbie (Isaac) Salinas, both of Corpus Christi, Dorothy (Keith) Abbott of Morrilton, Arkansas and Bobby Garrett of Skidmore; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; and his companion, Marlene Rich.

A private celebration of his life was held by the family sharing past memories.
