Kids under the age of 15 are being encouraged to get their swimsuits out and get ready to swim with members of the Beeville Police Department.

Assistant Police Chief Richard Cantu said the department will open the doors to the Bernardo Sandoval, Sr. Municipal Pool at 103 S. Quinn St. from 7 until 9 p.m. on Saturday, July 19.

No one under the age of 15 will be charged to join the police for the party.

Cantu called the event a “Swim with a Cop” party. Local officers will be there with their families for the evening.

The assistant chief said the event will be sponsored by the BPD and Civilian Police Academy.

The event is part of a new outreach program being launched by the department in an effort to let young Beeville residents learn that the police officers are their friends.

Cantu said other similar events are being planned for the future.
