Cread Adkins McCollom Jr., 82, of Bryan, formerly of Beeville, died at his home on Thursday, July 17, 2014, of congestive heart failure.

Mr. McCollom was born March 24, 1932, in Beeville to Cread and Kathleen (Preston) McCollom and attended St. Joseph’s school and A.C. Jones High School. As a boy, he was a skilled horseman and devoted to ranch work. He enjoyed riding in trail ride reenactments. After service in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War period, he worked for the City of Bryan, retiring as head of buildings management in 1996. He and his wife, the former Mary Kalinec, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last year.

Survivors include his wife; daughter, Mollie Kathleen (Lloyd) Miles of Rowlett; stepson, Sonny Massey of Bryan; grandchildren, Shelia Dotson, Jimmy Massey and Rebecka, Cristopher and Nicolas Miles; two great-grandchildren; brother, Jim McCollom of Beeville; nephew, Jim McCollom Jr.; and nieces, Silvia McCollom, Susana McCollom and Cristina Centeno.

Rosary and visitation were held at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan.

The funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Joseph Church of Bryan on July 21, followed by burial at Smetana Cemetery.
