Mr. Cantu was born in Beeville on Feb. 25, 1948, to Juan and Gertrudes (Maldonado) Cantu. He married Ruth Lopez on Aug. 9, 2012, and worked many years as an auto body technician with Dave Moore Ford and Diamond Finish Auto Clinic. He was also a lifelong musician and had played drums with the former band called Los Reales.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Henry Cantu.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Lopez Cantu of Beeville; two daughters, Linda Cantu of Victoria and Shirley Cantu Garcia of Palacios; two stepdaughters, Caricia (Robert) Blanco of Corpus Christi and Maribel Gonzales of El Campo; two sisters, Mary Cantu (Toby) Castillo of Belen, New Mexico, and Lucy (Dallas) McCollough of Nashville, Tennessee; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Oak Park Memorial Funeral Chapel Friday, Aug. 1, from 4 to 8 p.m. A prayer service is scheduled for 7 o’clock that evening.
The funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, at Oak Park Memorial Funeral Chapel.
