Construction workers have finished foundation work for the new Applebee’s that will be constructed in Portland, and the restaurant is scheduled to open sometime within the next few months.

Crosslands Construction Company is handling the restaurant’s construction, and Project Superintendent Steve Meyer expects all major framing work to be done this week.

“All the walls should be up, and we’ll start putting trestles in this week,” Meyer said. “They’re hoping to open by roughly the first week of October. It could possibly be Sept. 29, but that depends on the weather.”

The Applebee’s will be at 1821 U.S. Highway 181 in Portland. It will have two entrances; one across from the neighboring IHOP, and one in the back of the facility, Meyer said.

Crosslands is based in Denver, and specializes in building Applebee’s restaurants.

“We’ve been building Applebee’s for 15 years,” Meyer said. “We just finished one in Weslaco. They’re looking to build a half dozen stores in South Texas in the next year.”

Meyer said company officials are looking to expand near McAllen and Victoria.
