Mr. Luna was born Nov. 21, 1928, in Kenedy to Tomas and San Juanita (Perez) Luna. He served in the United States Army from Oct. 30, 1952, through Aug. 18, 1954, and was honorably discharged. He was retired from construction and pipeline work, and he was a Catholic.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Rafael Luna, Joaquin Luna and Tomas Luna; and sisters, Consuelo Gonzalez and Esperanza Rodriguez.
Survivors include his wife, Clara Rios Luna of Beeville; four sons, Valentin Luna of Seguin, Oscar Luna of Austin, Daniel (Cynthia) Luna of Houston and Hector (Kristy) Luna of San Antonio; three daughters, Norma Luna Alaniz of Beeville, Erma (Benancio) Puente of San Antonio and Diana (Miguel) Alvarado of Austin; one brother, Leopaldo Luna of Albuquerque, New Mexico; three sisters, Alifonsa Pena of Beeville, Delfina Rodriguez of Luling and Frances Tijerina of Bayside; 19 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A rosary was held Thursday, Aug. 7, at 7 p.m. at Treviño Funeral Home.
The funeral Mass was celebrated Friday, Aug. 8, at 10 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church with Father Balaswamy Pasala officiating. Interment followed at Loma Alta Cemetery in Kenedy with full military honors.
Pallbearers were Daniel, Hector and Valentin Luna III, Benancio Puente Jr., Lionel Alaniz Jr. and Oscar Lorenza Luna.
Honorary pallbearers were Joshua and Jacob Luna.
