Beeville, Texas - Miguel Daniel Barrera, 49, received his wings on August 5, 2014 at his home in Beeville after a long courageous battle with cancer surrounded by his loving family.

Miguel was a 1983 San Diego High School Graduate. Miguel served in the U.S. Army from 1984-1987. He worked for the Texas Department of Corrections in Beeville and was also self-employed. Miguel enjoyed the outdoors and was a avid hunter.

He is preceded in death by his paternal grandfather Dan Tobin Jr., paternal grandparents Santiago Barrera Sr. and Estanislada Vera Barrera.

Survivors include his wife Debra Barrera of Beeville, four sons Jay D.(Erika-Lala) Rhodes, Justin D. (Melissa) Rhodes, Tobin Daniel Barrera and Miguel Santiago "Pepper" Barrera all of Beeville, his parents Santiago "Chago" Barrera Jr. and Marie Allie Barrera of San Diego, maternal grandmother Teresa G. Tobin of San Diego, one brother Jose (Roxann) Barrera of Alice, one sister Greta (Pete) Guerra of San Diego, three grandchildren Jayson Lane, Esteban, and Javier, his goddaughter Ava Marie, his nieces and nephews Aissa, Alexia (Ray), Andres, Pete, Gabriela, Sergio, Jorge, Brenna and Ariella, numerous cousins, aunts and uncles, his mother-in-law Janie Gomez, brother-in-law Christopher Gomez, and sister-in-law Marissa Gomez.

Active Pallbearers: David Gonzales, Rupert Canales III, Albert Martinez, Carlos Harvey, Shawn Pinney, and Ruben Perez. Honorary Pallbearers: The Emaus Group - Wind Mill Blades.

Visitation was held on Friday, August 8, 2014, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Mauro P. Garcia Funeral Home-San Diego with a Rosary recited at 7 p.m. that evening.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, August 9, 2014, at 11 a.m. at St. Francis De Paula Catholic Church in San Diego. Burial followed at the San Diego Cemetery.

Military graveside services were conducted by the Bee County Veteran's Honor Guard. Mauro P. Garcia Funeral Homes entrusted with the arrangements.
