Classes offered are:
· The Science of Fine Arts – Students will cover topics such as patterns, symmetry, structure, shape and beauty in the fine arts class.
· The Math Connection in Design – Students will create structures such as the geodesic and pottery/ceramics in the design class.
· Engineering and Robotics-Lego Style – Students will build and create robots to perform simple tasks like moving objects.
· Language Alive Theatre Arts – Students will engage in melodramas, speeches and other verbal skills exercises to build leadership and self confidence in public speaking.
Each class is designed to assist students in mastering new skills and promote discovery of unique talents. Students will be encouraged to develop their skills and talents in a safe and challenging environment.
Registration forms are available at St. Mary’s Academy Charter School. There is no charge for the program. The program will be accepting 60 applicants. Students that will be in 6th, 7th and 8th grade during the 2009-2010 school year are eligible to apply.
SMART is open to St. Mary’s current and former students and will be held June 1 through July 2, Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. (Early and late supervision will be provided by St. Mary’s).
Transportation to and from St. Mary’s and Coastal Bend College will be provided.
Fun and educational activities will be held on the college campus in the Frank Jostes Visual Arts Building. Students will work with ceramics, glass, paints, drawing tools, robotics and theatre arts.
An art show is set for July 1, 3-6 p.m. A student stage production will be held on July 2, 9-11a.m.
