KARNES COUNTY – There is nothing quite like a South Texas football game under the Friday Night Lights as the fall season approaches.

Many local football fans have been eagerly awaiting the start of the 2014 football season, which will officially get underway for the four Karnes County high school football teams this Friday night.

There is no bigger rivalry than the one that has lasted for generations between two towns near the center of Karnes County, and for several years, the seasons for these teams have kicked off with the traditional game where bragging rights outweigh every thing else for two towns, and two schools separated only by six miles.

The Karnes City Badgers will travel south this year to meet the Kenedy Lions this Friday night, Aug. 29, to begin their 2014 football season.

Although they no longer compete in the same district, the annual contest always draws big crowds.

Kickoff for this game is at 7:30 p.m.

The Falls City Beavers – a team with a long-standing and proud winning tradition, will face D’Hanis at home for their season opener at 7:30 p.m.

The Runge Yellow Jackets are going on the road for their season-opener and they hope to put the “sting” to Ben Bolt-Palito Blanco. The game will get underway in Ben Bolt at 7:30 p.m.

For previews of local football team seasons, schedules, and much more, be sure to take a look at the 2014 Football Preview Special Section inside this issue of The Karnes Countywide.

And don’t forget to grab a copy of The Karnes Countywide’s Sept. 3 issue for complete coverage of all the local games with photos. Video highlights from local games will also be online at mySouTex.com.
