The Boys & Girls Clubs of Live Oak County announced the kick-off of its’ 2009 annual fundraising campaign this week.

Michael Ginster, Chief Professional Officer, stated this year’s theme is “It Just Takes One” - it just takes one person to make a difference in the life of a child through their support of the Boys & Girls Clubs in George West and Three Rivers. The clubs help youth in Live Oak County achieve academic success, build character and become productive, responsible adults. The clubs serve as a positive alternative during the hours when children are most at risk, after school and during the day when not in school, providing a safe, structured environment where kids have fun, learn new skills and make friends.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Live Oak County opened in 1999 with one staff member and 28 kids. Almost 10 years later, they now have over 600 members and eight staff, with an annual budget of $213,000.00 per year. Only six percent of that is covered by membership fees. The rest must be raised each year through individual and corporate donations, grants and fundraisers. Through outstanding community support over the last decade, the clubs have grown and flourished.

Club goals for the coming years are to continue to expand and reach more families, making their second decade even more successful. To do that, however, requires everyone’s help. Those who make donations, volunteer time and help out with fundraisers are vital to the clubs’ ability to deliver nationally recognized quality youth services and programs. We are asking the citizens of Live Oak County to be generous in their support, and to be the one who makes a difference in the life of a child. Every gift, no matter what size, helps us in our mission to serve the children of Live Oak County. For further information, call 361-786-1400 or e-mail us at
