Bo Adams has been selected by the Texas High School Coaches Association to play in its 75th annual North-South All-Star football game on July 21 at the Darrel Royal Memorial Stadium in Austin.

The stalwart Refugio Bobcat senior defensive lineman of the 2008-2009 school year will play on the South team coached by Gary Joseph and Tim Ripperger of Katy High School.

The game is “one of the oldest and most prestigious,” Joseph said.

Coach Ripperger watched clips and videos of Bo and was impressed.

“(Bo) is a very talented football player,” Ripperger said. “From a personal level, I have heard a lot of coaches from (Bo’s) region talk about how good of a young man (Bo) is. (Bo) will have an opportunity to really cause some problems for the North offensively.”

Outstanding athletes and coaches of the 2008 football season are selected to participate in the annual game played in conjunction with the THSCA’s coaching school in Austin which begins on Saturday.

The last time Refugio had a player selected for the team was in 1997. Will McKinney played on the team quarterbacked by Drew Breeze.

This year Bo also played on the East team of the Shriner East-West All-Star football game which was a shutout. His performance was instrumental in keeping the West team from scoring.

The 6 ft. 1 inch, 220 pound athlete was named All South Texas Player of the Year, Most Valuable Player in District 30AA, and the Texas Sports Writer’s all state team for this and the previous football season.

Bo will continue in the family tradition of playing college sports. He will attend Texas A&M, Kingsville to play football for the Javelinas. Both his older sisters, Breka and Malori, were college athletes.
