Ten of the dozen members of Beeville’s Junior Girls District Champion Little League team gathered at City Hall Thursday afternoon to thank members of the Beeville Police Department for providing escorts during their out-of-town games this summer.

Detective Sgt. Al Puga said the girls went all the way to the state championship this year and finished in second place.

Officers honored with $15 gift certificates to Shorty’s Restaurant included Sgt. Stephen Phipps, FTO officers Art Gamez and Jonell Cisneros and Patrolmen Brian Mitchell, Victor Gonzales and Mark Cruz.

Police Chief Joe Treviño was at the meeting to congratulate the girls for a successful season and to thank his officers.

Team members this year included Adriana Baltazar, Anika Barbosa, Anyssa Barbosa, Eddika Ortega, Destiny Carralez, Krystal Cuellar, Amanda Gonzales, Taylor Lawson, Tristian Moore, Victoria Muñoz, Alexis Pelitire and Lynnisa Puente.

Joel Barbosa managed the team this year and Dela Castillo and Marcos Torres were coaches.
