The children who participated in the summer reading program at the Dennis M. O’Connor Public Library were treated to ice cream, cookies and a show by Dizzy the Clown on Wednesday, July 29.

Awards were given to the top reader from each age group. They received a T-shirt with the program logo and certificates donated by Dairy Queen, Whataburger, and Stripes.

Winners are Journey Morris, 7, for reading 50 books; Raven Morris, 9, 50 books; and Wyatt Iles, 12, 26 books.

Summer reading club participants decorated boots while studying cowboys. Library patrons voted for their favorite boot during their visits to the library.

Sarah Aigner and Kaitlynn Lee won the boot decorating contest and received a DVD for their hard work.

Approximately 65 children attended the weekly reading programs held at the library. Presentations were made by the Aransas Wildlife Refuge, Fennessey Ranch, and local cowboys and ranchers.

Different aspects of Texas were covered each week including famous Texans, Texas critters, Texas tales and folklore, dinosaurs and cowboys.

“Adult readers and volunteers helped make the summer reading program possible,” said Sharon Baugh, librarian. “Our volunteers are vital to this program.”

Those who donated their time and talents this summer include Debbie Sternadel, Vicki Johnson, Barbara Schubert, Anna Garcia, Jared and Cameron Sternadel, and Madeline Myers.
