He was born in Pettus on Nov. 10, 1946, to Eugenio Gutierrez Sr. and Eloisa (Chavera) Gutierrez. He married Carolyn Martinez in Normanna. He was a member of the Catholic church and was in the paint and drywall profession.
Mr. Gutierrez was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents; and a brother, Joseph Gutierrez.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Gutierrez; two sons, Johnny Joe Gutierrez of Tuleta and Willie Bob Gutierrez of Beeville; one brother, Felipe Gutierrez of Tuleta; four sisters, Lydia Cantu of San Antonio, Carolina Lopez of Beeville, Esther Martinez of Tuleta and Victoria Anna Gutierrez of Victoria; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation was held from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday at Angelus Funeral Home chapel. A rosary was recited there at 7 o’clock that evening.
A graveside service was held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Tuleta Cemetery, with Deacon Cesar Ponce officiating.
Pallbearers were Willie Martinez Jr., Ernest Lopez, Henry Cantu Jr., J.D. Gutierrez, Ruben Gutierrez and Jimmy Castro.
