Three Rivers High School Speech and Debate team brings home sweepstakes trophy

Thirteen members of the Three Rivers High School Speech and Debate Team traveled to Salado on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 24 and 25 for the Salado Speech and Debate Tournament.

This was the first tournament of the school year for the Three Rivers squad. Out of the 23 schools participating in the tournament, the Three Rivers team garnered the most overall points and brought home the sweepstakes trophy.

Those placing at the tournament include Colton House – 5th poetry, Rachel Dockery – 1st prose, Josh Gutierrez – 3rd LD debate, Hayden Kopplin – 2nd extemporaneous speaking, Caitlin Curbello – 4th extemporaneous speaking, and the CX debate team of Bradley Bellows and Jesi Hessong, who placed 3rd.

Also competing at the tournament were Lindsey Weber in LD debate, Jacob Moran and Krissy Arnst in CX debate, and Hannah McAfee, Cami Hunter, and Shelly Smith in poetry. The speech team was accompanied by Mr. Jimmy Conn, Mrs. Belinda Kopplin, and TRHS Principal Kenneth Rohrbach.

Conn and Rohrbach are the coaches for the speech team. The team will next travel to La Vernia on Nov. 8.
