The young ‘Cats dominated on defense and offense. Turnovers created several early opportunities for the young Bobcats and they took advantage of them.
Jeremy Byrd got the Bobcats off to a good start with a first quarter run of 18 yards with 7:32 left in the first quarter. The PAT failed to keep the score at 6-0.
Kyle Nelson then recovered a Badger fumble at the 42-yard line. QB Hudson Wallace picked up good yardage on the drive and the ‘Cats had the ball deep in Bishop’s end of the field.
John Lamb scored the second Bobcat TD from one yard out at 5:09 still in the first quarter. A pass from Wallace to Robert Hernandez got the two-point conversion for the Bobcats and made the scoreboard read 14-0.
The Bobcat defense stifled the Badgers with a couple of good stops by Brian Priddy and Justin Chambers to force the ball back over on downs.
Byrd took an early snap in the drive and scampered 60 yards for the third TD for the Bobcats. The PAT pass to Smith was again good and the Bobcats led 22-0 with 1:20 left in the first quarter.
The Bobcats tacked on one more touchdown in the second quarter as Manny Flores crashed his way into the end zone from one yard out. Flores also made good on the extra-point run to up the score to 30-0 with 6:11 left in the first half. Neither team scored the rest of the first half and the Bobcats were in control 30-0 at the intermission.
Bishop scored its lone touchdown of the game on the opening drive of the second half. The Bobcats stuck to their running game in the second half to help eat up the clock.
Using a running back rotation of Byrd, Lamb, Flores, Chambers and Nelson, the Bobcats worked the ball down the field to the Bishop one-yard line on their second drive of the second half. Flores punched it in and the Bobcats took a 36-8 lead. That would be the final score of the game as the Bobcat defense clamped down.
The defensive effort was led by end Danny Gonzales, linebackers Lamb and Flores, along with defensive backs Bryan Priddy, Tate Stroman and Byrd.
The JV Bobcats will play in Mathis Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
