The Kingsville Lady Brahmas captured three of four sets on Saturday against the visiting Lady Trojan varsity volleyball team to drop Beeville’s record to 5-9 on the season.

Kingsville captured the first set rather easily at 25-12, but the Lady Trojans got back into the swing of things and defeated the Brahmas 25-23 in set two to even the best of five match. The final two sets had Kingsville in front 27-25 and 25-18.

“We missed too many serves and our serve reception wasn’t very good. We definitely need to improve in these areas when we play Tuloso-Midway,” said Lady Trojan coach Larry Lollar.

Sets two and three were close and could have gone either way. Kingsville prevailed and had plenty of momentum going its way in the fourth set as those girls eased to a seven-point victory to capture the best of five match 3-1.

J.J. Hernandez led the Lady Trojans with six kills while teammates Randi Maupin and Brennan Holder each had five kills in the match. Krista Gonzales had 17 assists for the Lady Trojans. Maupin blocked three Kingsville hits at the net and Gonzales added two more blocks for Beeville.

Hernandez also led the team in digs with 10 for the match. Natalie Elder and Nissi Barrientes followed with eight apiece. Hernandez served two aces and Theresa Amador had one ace.

The Lady Trojans played host to Tuloso-Midway on Tuesday night and will begin District 30-4A play on Friday night. The Beeville girls will travel to Rockport to meet the Lady Pirates to begin the district battles for playoff berths.
