Brooke earns Country Club Labor Day tourney crown

The Beeville Country Club held its annual Labor Day match play tournament over the Labor Day weekend with BCC member Cory Brooke winning in the championship flight.

The final match of the day had Brooke going up against Uvalde’s Edward Trevino in the finals.

Brooke eased to a 5 and 4 victory over Trevino, who had to settle for second place in the tournament. Julius Gonzales placed third in the championship flight with the consolation match going to George Cano.

In the first flight competition, Fonzie Zapata captured first place with Craig Billman coming in second. Brannon Brooke won the consolation trophy for the first flight.

Joe Wright won the second flight title with John Collins in second place and Jerry Kolb earning the consolation spot.

In the third flight of the tourney, Brennen Pinchback defeated Johnny Vasquez in the title match with Gary Davenport capturing the consolation.

Joe Larakers won the fourth flight title over second place finisher Thad Rogers. Noe Cano earned the consolation win.

Kerry Kolb was the fifth flight winner with Travis Tindol in second. Chad Beuershausen won the consolation match.

In the sixth flight competition, Johnny Bond took top honors with Roy McCleery in second. Cecil Drummond won the consolation spot.

The seventh flight winner was Roy Gates with Max Luna taking second place. Fritz Scotten won the consolation match in that flight.

Craig Hickey placed first in the eighth flight in the tournament with Joe Hancock capturing second place. Bill King was the consolation winner.

The ninth flight had Arty Niland in first place with James Edwards in second and Thom Aman taking the consolation title.

The tenth and final flight of players was won by Ray Duhon over second place finisher Hill Huckman. Kenneth Taylor earned the consolation trophy for that flight.
