“It appears that sparks from welding on an elevated portion of the heater started the fire,” said Stacie Farrell, Valero Three Rivers Refinery spokesperson.
The East Plant fire alarm was activated. The Emergency Response Team responded and quickly extinguished the fire with a portable dry chemical fire extinguisher, Farrell said.
Work was resumed soon after the fire was extinguished. Four contract employees were evaluated by the nurse and released back to work.
