The Citizen Meeting will be at the Williamson Senior Center on Tuesday Oct. 6 at 4 p.m.

Everyone in Refugio County is invited to attend to obtain information for input to our commissioners court and city councils. We will request to have concerns placed on agendas in order to get the reaction of our elected officials that have been chosen to lead us in the right direction.

Some items to be discussed include a public workshop by the city council on our city ordinances, the procedure and policy. The council cannot be both inspector and authority, so they are going to work it out at the meeting.

Our city council seems to be listening and making an effort to give the citizens some workable conclusions. The council does need input, they need to know what the citizens want and they will work out the wrinkles, it looks like.

We also will ask the council for an agenda item to affirm the right for a citizen to address the city council at the meetings. However, the council will set a time limit for each person and they do not have to give a response, especially if the item is not on the agenda.

I feel like we struck gold by attending the city council meetings and hope we continue to do so. The city council is there to help our citizens and provide a better Refugio future, lets help them help us.

There are problems at the county level as well so do not be shy, we need to let our wishes be known. This is a clean approach and I personally have never been denied an agenda item to get response from the commissioners.

I did not always like what they said but they acted. Anyone can approach our commissioners court. Thank you for your support in our Refugio.
