Jeffrey Charles Frahm, 46, died at Spohn Memorial Hospital in Corpus Christi at 11:20 p.m. after he was transported by air ambulance from Refugio Memorial Hospital.
An autopsy was ordered and toxicology tests are underway.
“We will release the cause of death when all the reports are completed and Ranger Lopez has had a chance to do his investigation,” said Sheriff Robert Bolcik.
A resident on State Highway 774 reported that a vehicle was in the ditch and that no one was injured at 7:49 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 13.
Trooper Blake Chapman, Lt. John Moehr and Deputy Duqualis Farrow were dispatched to the accident, according to the dispatch report. Frahm refused to provide a breath test so he was taken to the hospital where blood was drawn and then booked in jail on driving while intoxicated charges.
Frahm was placed in a holding cell where jail personnel found him unresponsive and lying on the floor.
He was transported to the local hospital and then transferred to Corpus Christi where he died.
Milton’s Wrecker Service was called to pull the vehicle out of the ditch. The tow truck driver reported he had pulled the same vehicle out of the ditch earlier in the morning at 774 and SH 2678.
Frahm was on his way to Houston to pick up his estranged wife, according to the dispatch report.
