Section B at Bobcat Stadium was brimming during homecoming with students from the class of 1959 who returned to celebrate the 50th year of graduation.

The RHS class kicked off its reunion at the pep rally in the gym Friday afternoon. A host of activities followed throughout the weekend.

“Many of our classmates had not seen each other since graduation,” said Martha Woodard Sullivan.

Some of the girls see each other regularly and many were at the 40-year reunion in Corpus Christi last year.

Of 59 graduates in 1959, 36 were able to attend. Sullivan traveled the greatest distance - from California.

Following the pep rally, the Former Students Association treated the class to a hot dog supper prior to the homecoming game.

The game was a prelude to a get together at Mike and Joyce McGuill’s home for appetizers and drinks.

On Saturday, the class took a tour of the new athletic building and attended a barbecue at the VFW hall. Memories of stories of the past were shared during the afternoon.

“The state-of-the-art athletic building is awesome, especially the workout equipment and turf inside the building,” said one of the class members.

Farewells were held on Sunday at the Dairy Queen, but not until the date was set for the next reunion in 2011 at Larry Germer’s ranch in Austin.

“Everyone looks forward to the next reunion in Austin,” Sullivan said.
