Darren Russell, Megan Winthrop, Natalie Arispe, Crystal Santa Ana and Amanda Alvarez read their original poetry. Yanet Ybanez read a poem called “Poetry,” written by a famous Mexican poet, Octavio Paz, who explained he wouldn’t exist without poetry. Linda Bridge read Edgar Allen Poe’s “Ulalune,” a ballad, and Elmer Johnson recited an Ogden Nash poem. Michelle Wright recited two beautiful poems about children. Robert Styers’ poem about heaven touched everyone when he told about his mother’s devotion to him when he had been hospitalized for a lengthy time. The session ended at 7 p.m. and the moon came out before it officially ended at 7:30 p.m.
The next poetry session will be at the SUB at Coastal Bend College on Nov. 4 from 11 a.m. to noon. All who bring a poem can read.
There will be chocolate cake for all participants and two points from the speech class instructor for reading poetry.
Call Natalie Arispe at 542-9743 for more information.
