The Longhorns game this week should be interesting when they face off with Hitchcock in round two of Division I playoffs. This is not the same team George West faced last year in the 44-41 victory. Last years’ Hitchcock team beat Odem 55-12 and this year it was 49-35.

This Hitchcock team is 5-5 and but sure didn’t look like a team with a .500 record Saturday night at Ricebird Stadium in El Campo. Hitchcock had one game cancelled and lost to Stafford, Waco Reicher, Beaumont Kelly Catholic, Anahuac, and district champion Industrial. Victories came from Van Vleck, Danbury, El Maton Tidehaven, Boling and Taft.

Players to watch should be senior stand out quarterback Morris Tuck. Tuck has an unbelievable stat accumulation of 167 completions out of 255 attempts for 2,519 yards and 23 touchdowns this season and only eight interceptions. District 29-2A rushing leader is also a Hitchcock player Darius Dotson, with 98 attempts for 796 yards. Leading receivers for Hitchcock have been Scottie Williams with 29 for 532 yards and 5 TD’s, DeVante Provost with 21 for 519 yards and 7 TD’s, Dawayne Barnes 27 for 391, Bryan Smith 23 for 269 and running back Darius Dotson 19 for 267 yards.

No doubt the George West Longhorns will be ready to play. The Big Blue Wrecking Crew may just have a few surprises for Morris Tuck and his Bulldogs.

The game will be played in El Campo on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
