The Longhorn season ended in a game that was not decided until late in the fourth quarter after a fumble.

Comfort converted that fumble into the score that would become the decisive touchdown and would end the outstanding Longhorn season.

George West ended the season undefeated in regular season play and were crowned the 31-2A District Champions. Finishing the 2009 campaign at 12-1, the Longhorns are Division I Regional Champions and Division 1 Quarter finalists.

The Longhorns were going to need everybody at 100% Saturday against Comfort. That was a luxury the Longhorns did not get. Earlier in the week Cayleb Holt had a laparoscopic appendectomy. On the first play of the game free safety Lucas Yocum injured his right ankle and was hobbled for the entire game.

The Comfort Bobcats scored first on a 35-yard field goal with under five minutes left in the first quarter. Shannon Taylor then took the kickoff at the Longhorn 13-yard line and finding an open center field took the ball 87-yards into the endzone. The Longhorns took a total of 12 seconds to go ahead in the game. The Longhorns led 6-3 after the conversion pass fell incomplete.

The second quarter was a tough one. The Bobcats took a minute and a few seconds to score two touchdowns on the Longhorns. The first score was on a pass play and the second on a 5-yard run. Cayleb Holt scored on an 8-yard run after entering the game during the second offensive series of the Longhorns.

No one should be surprised that Holt, an irrefutable example of fortitude, suited out and played despite the fact he underwent an appendectomy on Tuesday.

The half ended with the Comfort Bobcats leading 17-12. Comfort put up the only score in the third quarter on a 33-yard run bringing the score 24-12.

The Longhorns came back strong in the fourth quarter. The first score on the quarter came on a Zane Schorp 50-yard pass reception from Albert Gamez. The PAT was blocked, but the Longhorns had now pulled the score to 18-24. Schorp scored again on a 16-yard reception from Gamez. The PAT was blocked again, but the Longhorns had tied the game up 24-24.

With five fumbles on the night, three were lost. The last fumble led to the deciding touchdown when it was converted on a 25-yard pass to put the Bobcats on top. Comfort scored again on a 1-yard run late in the fourth to put the game away 38-24.

Albert Gamez led the team with 55-yards on 11 carries and went 4 of 13 for 77-yards and two touchdowns to Zane Schorp. Holt ended his season with 31-yards on 12 carries and a touchdown. Taylor had 9 carries for 34-yards and ran 87-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. Joseph Lopez had 9 carries for 48-yards and Andrew Sotello 1 for 2-yards.
